What Up, Buddhists?

buddha3This is interesting.  Akon, no, not a city in Ohio, but a singer that some of those young whippersnappers seem to enjoy, was slated to have a concert in Sri Lanka, but, alas, no more.
Apparently, much of the 70% Buddhist population was offended at one of Akon’s recent videos featuring a Buddhist statue behind a bevy of half-nekkid women.  So, you ask, did they pray that he would find inner peace?  In fact, these particular Buddhists, decided to form a mob that “on Monday hurled stones at a private broadcaster that was helping sponsor the event” and others developed a “We Hate Akon” page on Facebook had attracted more than 12,000 members by earlier in the week.

What up, Buddhists?  Aren’t you supposed to be the “good” religion?  We don’t know which is worse – the way you’re acting or the fact that Akon would have been the “biggest star” to grace your country with his presence since the end of Sri Lanka’s long civil war.

Tourists, beware: Sri Lankan Buddhists will cut you.  Akon is only the first casualty.
