Frugal Traveler DC Baby-Centric Story Leaves a Lot to be Desired

"Dad, let's spend all day on a bus together so we can bond."

In one of the most inane traveler stories we’ve read in a while, the NYT Frugal Traveler takes his infant daughter for a day trip to Washington, DC.  From the ludicrous reasoning to spend 8 hours total in one day on a bus (so the 10 month old will know she can “rely on him” WTF?) to the overkill of discussing her eating and elimination habits to the apparent sponsorship of “lightweight Maclaren Volo umbrella stroller,” all of it screams out boredom, self-absorption, and deadline in equal measures.

He tweets to find a changing table?  Come on.  FT actually goes to some decent places in the short time he has (National Geographic Museum, National Zoo, and Two Amy’s which we’ve lauded in the past) but did he really have to set up this DC trip with the whole baby theme?  It’s not that we don’t like the little monsters; it’s just that no one would or should do this to themselves or their kid.  If he really wanted to spend time with his daughter after not seeing her for two weeks, he should have gone to Central Park and played around on the grass with her.  There.  No bus, no 20 pound bag, but then again, no article, right?

  1. haha. It does seem to reek of self-absorption. As a blogger I my best to make sure a post either informs, entertains, or offers understanding, maybe even has a little combo-pack action.
