spacecampmovieThis month’s Budget Travel had a lot of good stuff but our favorite article was Summer Camp for All by Jane Margolies.  If you’re not a child, parent, or summer camp fan, you might not like it as much as we did.  We’ve read articles like this in other publications but have always come away wanting more information.  This article lists camps by focus areas: science, language, theater and music, sports, equestrian and ranch, farm, and outdoor.

Margolies also gives details on lodging (some have bunk beds, other private cabins, etc.), bathroom facilities (because we know some members of our own family who would NOT go for the shared bathroom option), food, dates, and of course, price.

Who can resist the Wolf Ridge Family Vacation?

“Overlooking Lake Superior on the campus of Wolf Ridge Environmental Learning Center—with 18 miles of trails on 2,000 acres—the program teaches families about nature and the Ojibwa people who once populated these parts. During sessions led by naturalists, kids 3 to 6 might look for deer beds in the grass, and 7- to 14-year-olds might wade in streams in calf-high boots in search of water bugs, while their parents take a wildflower walk.”

Or what about Space Camp?

“At the 88-acre U.S. Space & Rocket Center, parents and kids train like astronauts from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., building and launching single-engine rockets, seeing what it’s like to walk on the moon with gravity chairs used by Apollo astronauts, and simulating shuttle missions in an orbiter.”

Question: Does Space Camp include a free screening of the 80s classic with Tate Donovan as the heartthrob, Lea Thompson as the hot girl, and yes, Joaquin Phoenix as cutie-pie nerdboy Max?  “Help me, Obi-Wan Kenobi. Help me.”

If so, we’re so there.
