I’m a (D-list) Celebrity: Let Me Stay Here to Rot

"No, this isn't staged at all, hee hee!"
An Open Letter to the Country of Costa Rica:
Dear Costa Rica,
How’s it going? Things are good here – summer’s coming, yay! Okay, enough with the niceties.
I heard that the newest version of the show “I’m a Celebrity: Get Me Out of Here” will be hosted by your own pristine jungles. Is it actually true?
Oh, CR (can I call you CR?) – why, why did you have to host this pathetic excuse for famewhores to ratchet up their 15 minutes to as long as the public will have them? Janice Dickenson? Really? Stephen Baldwin? Go back to your glass house wallpapered with baby Jesuses. And you, those people whose names rhyme with Mighty Fontag and Dencer Cat, take your plasticized body and creepy, flesh-colored beard (TM Joel McHale) far, far away from all existing cameras, be they video, digital, instamatic, or Barbie polaroid.
Yes, CR, they say all publicity is good publicity but is it really? You’ve stood for ecotourism – your rainforests and land conservation are to be held up as models for other countries. Do you really want to attract the type of people who will watch this show? Look, we’re all for a decent reality show but this is scraping the bottom of the barrel, CR, can’t you see that?
It’s hard to get over this, CR. Give me a call if you want to talk this out.
I’ve missed you and hope to see you again soon – send photos when you get a chance!
Kisses,
The Mindful Tourist

I think we can definitely say CR has moved beyond just it’s ecotourism image. I wish they were a little more careful about their choices in not only publicity but also in development. This could be the real wrecker of their ecotourism image. I blogged about that a while back - http://www.greenspot.travel/blog/green-green-battle-costa-ricas-north-coast
It’s changing rapidly and while there are tons of great initiatives in the country, I hope with all my heart that they don’t get overshadowed by the all-inclusives, gated communities and concrete condos, and alas, reality shows about celebrities. I think it’s super important that all the “mindful” tourists out there support the local, sustainable, community initiatives as much as possible on their trips and keep the heart of CR going.
