Looking Forward to Bar Harbor, Maine… in 2005?

Saturday, February 7, 2009

You know we’re fans of the International Ecotourism Society - look to your right, their site is on our short blogroll list.  So since we’re now important ecotourism bloggers (ahem), we thought we should look into going to an ecotourism conference this year.  We had visions of liveblogging the keynote speaker - would it be Richard Gere who has just opened an eco-friendly inn in NY or Drew Barrymore and Cameron Diaz who starred in and produced shows on their travels to places around the world?

We checked out the TIES website to see when and where this year’s conference would be and oh look, it’s in Bar Harbor, Maine - always wanted to go there.  And it’s in September… 2005?  Can someone please tell us why this is still on their website?  If they don’t have a conference (and haven’t had one in four years), just take it off for crikey’s sake.

In the meantime, we want to go to a conference!  In 2009.

Updated - please see comments below for information on 2009 conference.

  1. You can find a link to the Ecotourism and Sustainable Tourism Conference 2009 (ESTC 2009) - being held in Portland, OR in November 2009 - from TIES homepage. The conference website link is: http://www.ecotourismconference.org

Those interested in getting involved are welcome to contact events@ecotourism.org (for sponsorship/ partnership opportunities, questions about the event) and media@ecotourism.org (media inquiries).

  2. Good to know! You should probably remove the link to Bar Harbor - it shows up on the sidebar under events. That’s how I found it - I did not scroll all the way down thus didn’t find the link to the conference in the main section. Thanks very much for writing.
