Resort, Shmesort - Oasis Hamaca, DR
Resort, Shmesort will be a continuing feature on the blog. Some people think they’re avoiding any potential problems on vacation by booking an all-inclusive resort. Ha!
While there are some local all-inclusives that contribute to the local economy and may not be as bad as most, in general all-inclusives use up a lot of energy, waste food with the buffets, and make money for their owners who probably live far, far away.
Aside from the anti-socially conscious vibe of the all-inclusives, many are not what you expect. The Dominican Republic is well-known for its all-inclusives. Let’s see what folks on TripAdvisor thought of the Oasis Hamaca:
“insane, gross, a total rip-off”
“Raw sewage in closets and seeping through walls”
“Rats in the Tex Mex [sounds gross but what's a "Tex Mex"?]”
“Prostitutes, Prostitutes and more”
“Pimps and Drug Dealers running up and down the public street 24 hrs a day”
“Doesn’t sound too good. Maybe this is just a disgruntled former employee? What do others have to say?”
“Nothing worked the fridge ,air con, door locks, tv, taps, shower etc. The rooms stank and had black mold in many areas. The balcony was full of wasp nest and of course my family is highly allergic to bees. The doors would not lock and you could not get a lock or key for the safe. Sewer water came through the ceiling in one of our rooms and right into our closet filling our suit cases with sewer and distroying our camera. The rooms upon entering had been used and the beds were soiled and there was human waste wiped on the toilet seat and tank. When you flushed the toilet water over flowed on the floor. The fridges didnt work and where molded inside. I’m not making this up.This place is a sh** hole and the staff do not care at all. The place is built on two sides of a small street and the pimps patrol this 2 block area all day and night. If you are a male and try to cross this street at any time they zip up in your way on mopeds or small moter cycles and try to sell you dope or prostutes.”
I’m convinced.
